Utah liquor laws changed as of July 1st and the Private Club system is now a thing of the past. Previously, bars throughout the state required folks to pay membership fees to every bar (defined as businesses where the majority of income derived from alcoholic mixed drinks) before they could enter the premises. Our liquor laws have long been considered archaic and restrictive by most out-of-state visitors. The new rules will therefore come as a big relief to those who imbibe and to those who wish to attract more tourism to Utah. These two categories probably cover most of the population of Park City, so cheers everybody!
Two local business are celebrating their first year anniversay this week with special festivities on Friday July 3rd. Flippin’ Burgers on Snow Creek Drive will be blowing out free kids burgers or hotdogs (with an adult meal purchase) while supplies last. Gallery Mar on Main Street is holding a party in the evening from 6:00 to 9:30. Congratulations to both for making it through their first year!
Mayor
Dana Williams announced that he will run for re-election to a third term, stating that he would like to continue with the goals set out in his first two administrations - particularly environmental programs and housing for senior citizens. The 54 year old Williams had waited until nearly the last minute to announce his candidacy and will be running against former Mayor Brad Olch and transportation company owner Diania Turner.
City Hall awarded economic-development grants to two entities, though both recieved less than requested. High West Distillery will get $11,000 to help open their renovated historic building on Park Avenue. The money will be used to defray the cost of moving distilling equipment from Salt Lake City to their location at the historic Watts property in Old Town.
The Park City Performing Arts Foundation will receive $9,000 to help open a location which will sell merchandise that inspires the minds of youngsters. Literacy tutoring will also be offered at the site, geared to kids between 9 and 15 years old. The concept is modeled after similarly institutions in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Teri Orr, the executive director of the Performing Arts Foundation, said the Park City startup could someday be partnered with the ones in other cities. The shop is to be called the The Not-Quite-Genius-Supply Store.
Laos is the most laid-back country I have visited. The people, the culture, the landscape is uniquely and beautifully exquisite. Never let it be said that going back to college is overrated. And if you're going to do it, do it right. While I did my undergrad work at West Virginia University, today a member of the Big East, this week I checked into Stanford of the Pac-10. The difference? The campus adorned with palm trees,... Let's face it. The weather this weekend just stunk. It rained, it snowed, it blew. The National Weather Service used that lovely term that I hate to see on the forecast: "frozen mix." Yuck. Just when you're getting excited to get your hands in the garden or break out the golf clubs or... Comments: 1

The art market in New York is so different from the contemporary market in the Southwest and in our region that we might as well be on different planets. For our regional art market, prices are determined by the artist’s price list and recent sales. Most artists in this region increase... Comments: 0
