Stein Eriksen Lodge makes an annual tradition of lavish holiday decorations.

As beautiful to behold as the mountain snow we count on in December is the luxuriously decorated lobby at the Stein Eriksen Lodge. And if the Scandinavian décor, plush carpets, and floor-to-ceiling fireplace—all nestled midmountain in Deer Valley’s alpine splendor—weren’t winter wonderlandish enough, the staff at Stein’s celebrates an annual tradition of making the lobby decorations the centerpiece for holiday glamour. Aside from the 35-foot tree, the lodge’s pastry chefs take it upon themselves to create massive gingerbread displays each year—pictured here, Thomas the Tank Engine with movable wheels. This year’s decorations will be ready to enjoy starting the day after Thanksgiving (November 26), so stop in for a taste of holiday cheer—although the gingerbread creations themselves are off limits to tasters, of course.
