Nothing Says “Ski Party” Better Than a Ski Movie

Good times, good buddies and epic slope footage. Nothing says “ski party” better than a ski movie and nothing gets you amped for the next day’s adventure better than one of these infamous ski flicks. Our picks:

1. Blizzard of Aahhhs:

The classic, late-80s ski film by Greg Stump turned skiing into an “extreme” sport. All of the greats (and some of the unknowns) are present — Scott Schmidt, Glen Plake and Mike Hattrup, to name a few.

2. Downhill Racer:

Though it was a box office bomb in 1969, this quasi-documentary, starring Sundance Resort’s golden boy Robert Redford, is hands-down one of the best ski films with a plot and script. Redford plays a cocky, self-absorbed Olympic hopeful who lives for skiing and speed. We can all relate, can’t we?

3. Hot Dog: The Movie:

A movie about parties, panties and powder. It’s not exactly a documentary of Park City ski bums, but close. The plot, involving freestyle skiing or “hot-dogging,” ultimately leads to the notorious Chinese Downhill.

4. Better Off Dead:

When his girlfriend bags him for a ski jock, Lane (John Cusack) wants to die. Instead, he challenges his nemesis to a ski match — and Lane doesn’t ski! His best friend, who coaches him for the big race advises, “Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn.” Classic.

5. The High Life:

A fun mixture of big mountain and terrain park riding from Teton Gravity Research. This film takes you on a wild adventure from Alaska and Wyoming to France and Italy with “skilebrities” that include Utah locals Jeremy Nobis, Jamie Pierre, Will Burks, Sage Cattabriga-Alosa and Rick Greener.
