Activities for Children

Park City’s three resorts are well known for their instruction programs, so if you have a little one needing a little extra help on the hill, consider ski school. Sometimes non-parent lessons are best for everyone! The program types and times vary; you’re sure to find something that fits your needs.

Gorgoza Park is a great place to take the young’uns tubing — especially because Ma and Pa don’t have to drag the tubes all the way up to the top — it’s a lift-served tubing park. You might even have as much fun as they do! Here you’ll also find pint-sized snowmobiles, sure to elicit squeals.

If you have young ones who are amped for adventure, you’re in the right place. A few of Park City’s outdoor adventure outfitters provide various child-specific programs, including cross-country skiing for tykes, so have a look at their options and get going!

For something a little more relaxed, check out the smallish hill near the Park City Library and Education Center on Park Avenue or the hill at upper Trailside Park. You and your bambinos can get a short and not-so-steep ride, grinning all the while.

Maybe you’d like to give them a break from the slopes? Children have a blast at the ice rink at the base of Park City Mountain Resort. You can bring your own blades, or rent them onsite.

You’ve been going, going, going. Perhaps some quiet time indoors is in order. Visit the children’s sections in the library, where you’ll find multi-media centers and, as you might expect, loads of children’s books (including a super board book selection). There is a lot of open space with big, inviting bean bags, child-size tables and chairs, puppets, and colorful nooks just their size, perfect for some quiet time alone with a book. The Park City Library and Education Center is located at 1255 Park Avenue, 615.5600. While you’re there, inquire with library staff about special weekly programs for children and teens. Or, if you’re closer to Kimball Junction, visit the Summit Country Library, 6505 N. Landmark Drive, 615.3900.

Teach your children about the history of this old mining town (you might learn something too!) by taking them to the Park City Museum and Territorial Jail at 528 Main Street, where you can get hands-on experience with artifacts from the mining days.

If your children love skiing, history, or both — visit the world-class Joe Quinney Winter Sports Center, home to the Alf Engen Ski Museum, at the Utah Olympic Park. The museum, dedicated to the history of all skiing disciplines, has really cool interactive displays, games, and topographic maps and they even feature a virtual reality ski theatre.

Indoor swimming during winter is a great way for children to get their exercise. Both the Park City Aquatic Center at Ecker Hill Middle School and the Silver Mountain Sports Club offer indoor swimming. Silver Mountain’s pool has a large shallow-end and a water slide.

Child care services in Park City are high-quality and easy to find. In addition to the well-known child care facilities at Deer Valley Resort and The Canyons Resort, you’ll find multiple options for in-room or drop-in daycare around town. There are also services that rent cribs, high-chairs, strollers, sleds, backpacks and more for your baby’s needs while away from home.
