Fine teas and great books combine at Atticus

We’re pretty sure that Atticus Finch, the hero of Harper Lee’s enduring classic To Kill a Mockingbird, would approve of the Park City bookstore named in his honor. Opened less than a year ago, this cozy literary outpost and café has become a gathering spot for locals who linger over lattes, bagel sandwiches, and pastries, often with their canine friends in tow.
The welcoming vibe is enhanced by ample glass art, an overstuffed sofa, and a counter that looks out on lower Main Street. But the true draws are the stacks of magazines and shelves of books neatly arranged, along with a huge tea selection and a variety of teapots and coffee cups for sale. There’s even a beautifully curated selection of cards and all kinds of little gifts (or personal indulgences), including some very cool T-shirts for book lovers.
Speaking of whom, they can start early here, in a kid-oriented reading nook tucked far back in the store so that the adults can’t bother them. Older readers can browse an intriguing book collection, some of it shelved according to refreshingly helpful subject categories such as “books to enjoy on the road.” And with its focus on used books—about two-thirds of the stock on hand—Atticus provides a welcome complement to Main Street standby Dolly’s Bookstore, another independent shop that’s been a local haven for bookworms since 1975. Owners Randy and Ericah Winzeler, Park City residents themselves, hope their relative newcomer becomes a similarly beloved fixture in a town that loves the written word.
“I have to say, the locals have good taste,” Randy notes. “We get some really great books in here.”
