Country Days
The beautiful Heber Valley offers not only a pastoral paradise, but also a multitude of fun and unique experiences for the entire family.
Check out the following or find out more on all of these activities and events at gohebervalley.com.
Take a ride on a newly restored 1905 steam locomotive across the Heber Valley or down picturesque Provo Canyon on one of the Heber Valley Railroad’s scheduled excursions (435.654.5601). The historic railroad offers a variety of trips geared for all age groups, some including horseback riding or river rafting. Other themed trips are also available.
The valley offers public golf courses aplenty, all with breathtaking scenery. Choose from The Homestead (435. 654.1102), two 18-hole courses at Soldier Hollow (435.654.7442 or 801. 261.4733), and two more at Wasatch Mountain State Park (435. 654.0532 or 801.266.0268).
If you’re looking for water sports, consider one of the Wasatch County’s three reservoirs: Jordanelle State Park (435.649.9148), Deer Creek State Park (435.654.0171), and Strawberry Reservoir (801.548.2321). Each one boasts camping facilities, fishing, boating, windsurfing, kiteboarding, and waterskiing.
Thursday evenings through August, relax with locals from 4 to 8:30 p.m. at Heber City Park on Main Street for a casual farmers market and free live music (435.654.3666). The market offers, crafts, food vendors, and locally grown produce.
Experience beautiful landscapes and wildlife in the area. Camping facilities are available in the state parks, which make great starting points for hiking, mountain biking, ATV treks, and horseback riding.
Fly-fish the Provo River, a blue-ribbon fishery, or just take a scenic walk along its banks. Public access is available along 12 miles between Jordanelle Dam and Deer Creek Reservoir, with seven angler-access parking areas with restrooms and information displays.
Summer events also include the Wasatch County Fair, July 30–Aug 6, with activities for the whole family. The Mountain Valley Stampede PRCA Rodeo, with professional rough-stock riding and roping, takes place Aug 6–7. Midway Swiss Days Festival is Sept 2–3, with great food, craft items, and activities. And the annual Soldier Hollow Classic Sheepdog Championship & Country Festival takes place Sept 2–5, showcasing the best sheepdogs from around the world in a unique and popular event.
