Summer Guide '10 -- The Parks of Park City

The town’s crown jewel of outdoor recreation spaces is City Park (1354 Park Ave), adjacent to the historic Miners Hospital. This centrally located space has the best children’s playground within city limits. Plus, City Park sits right next door to a premier skateboard park, where Olympic snowboard gold medalist Shaun White has been known to rock the bowls.
If you’d rather catch air on your bike, check out the Dirt Jump Park (2388 Holiday Ranch Loop Road), nestled behind the fire station in Park Meadows. The park welcomes riders of all ages and includes smaller hills for beginners just learning that fat tires can be more fun off the ground. Further into Park Meadows, the Racquet Club (1200 Little Kate Road) not only offers tennis and swimming, but also features a pocket park with a playground boulder for low-impact rock climbing. For a more intensive workout, head east to New Prospector Park (at the intersection of Comstock Drive and Sidewinder Drive), where the rock walls are bigger and definitely more challenging.
Large families with a variety of age groups should try Willow Creek Park (at the intersection of Old Ranch Road and Split Rail Lane), just outside of town. Athletic courts, play areas, covered picnic areas and clean restrooms enable families to play in comfort all day. Rotary Park in Thaynes Canyon (at the very end of Payday Drive) has open space, shady trees and a large gazebo (with picnic tables and grills), making it perfect for family reunions—or just curling up with a good book. After all, just because Park City is an outdoors paradise doesn’t mean you have to sweat to enjoy it.
