Matt Eastman

Matt Eastman, husband to Michelle, step-dad to Genevieve and Isabella, director of fly fishing at Victory Ranch, Emmy-award-winning host of the ESPN2 show “Wanna Go Fishing?”

“I’ve been fishing since I was 5 years old. I lived in Jeremy Ranch. I’d get out of school and head to East Canyon Creek to fish. We used to carry our fly rods in our golf bags, so if it got backed up on the course, we’d just catch a few fish.”

“I love being outdoors, the soothing sound of the river. No matter what’s going on in my life, when I’m on the river, everything else disappears.”

“I have a passion for maintaining and saving fisheries. My philosophy is that the more people you get into the sport, the better chance you have of protecting nature.”

“Quality of life is the most important thing. I love to see the look on someone’s face when they catch that trout. You can buy a lot of things in life, but you can’t buy the excitement of catching a fish.”

Joy Barrett

A 22-year resident and owner of The Expanding Heart, Joy Barrett approaches life with childlike energy. “I see life as an incredible adventure. There’s so much more than meets the eye.”

She describes her business as “a sacred temple masquerading as a unique store full of beautiful items of inspiration. I’m holding a safe, heart-opening space for myself, for those I work with (who are incredible, caring human beings), and for those who come in to experience peace.”

“I love walking and hiking in the mountains while opening my arms to the beauty and mystery of it all. I love being creative, being quiet and loving my family [husband Myles, son Bryce, dog Sierra].”

“In the Hawaiian practice ‘ho’oponopono,’ you say ‘I forgive you, I’m sorry and I love you’ to yourself and to others; so whatever’s going on outside, you’re also looking within. I try to be the most open, loving, kind person that I can possibly be.”

Eric Heiden

Eric Heiden, father and husband, winner of five Olympic gold speed skating medals, professional road bike racer, U.S. PRO Road Cycling Champion, Tour de France participant, surgeon at TOSH and Heiden Orthopaedics (with wife Karen), medical director for USA Speed Skating and U.S. Cycling.

“My history gives me a lot of insight into the lives of athletes — the stresses, the desires they have for competing at an elite level. It makes athletes trust me.”
“I love Park City for the plethora of recreational activities. It’s a safe and healthy environment for my kids. If you’ve lived other places, you certainly understand how wonderful Park City is.”

“I’m a hard worker almost to a fault; sometimes I can’t accept compromise. Living here, looking at the mountains is a great way for me
to relax. Then again, I’ll go out riding and I get pretty competitive again. I’m over 50, and I don’t want to be the one dropped by the younger guys.”
