5 Lucky Fly Fishing Holes

Consult a local fly shop before hitting any of these spots (for a license and advice), and remember that most of the local fishing is catch and release. Then have fun!
1. The Deer Valley ponds are a sure-fire bet for beginners right in Park City proper. Check out these stocked fish ponds in front of the Stew Pot restaurant in Deer Valley. Jans Mountain Outfitters holds weekly casting clinics there.
2. The Provo River is a blue-ribbon fishery with three sections, upper, middle and lower. Convenient to Park City visitors is the stretch of Middle Provo between Deer Creek and Jordanelle Reservoirs, just a 15-minute drive from town along Highway 40. Get a map at any local fly shop pointing out many public access spots along the river, with restroom facilities and fish cleaning stations.
3. The Weber River, north of Park City, between Echo and Rockport Reservoirs (about a 30-minute drive from Park City) is a less-pressured, low key area for fishing with several public access areas. Consult a map from any local fly shop.
4. East Canyon Creek can be accessed just behind the Canyon Creek condos along Bitner Road on the outskirts of town. This small stream actually has some huge fish in it, and a pretty walking trail alongside it.
5. There’s a very small fishing pond (great for kids) right along the McLeod Creek Trail section that’s across from St Mary’s Church off Highway 224. For the easiest access, park at Willow Creek Park and walk the trail 15 minutes until you hit the pond, on your right.
