Park City on the Page
Photography: Michael Wickes
Park City included in new coffee table book:
Why did Idaho-based photographer Michael Wickes devote an entire coffee table book to images of Utah? “Because a friend told me that the less you know about a place, the more likely you’ll find its real character. Utah is beautiful and diverse; it’s a perfect blend of compelling landscapes and diverse people, so the idea immediately felt right.”
Wickes took 5,000 photographs in Utah before selecting the 102 that appear in the book, “Utah, Moments in Time.” From the Bonneville Salt Flats to mountain goats in the Tushar Mountains to freestyle skiers flying high above Park City’s slopes, Wickes captures the character and breathtaking landscapes of our state. www.wickesphoto.com.
Other new books by local authors:
Dave Shields (former Park City local and now a Salt Lake City resident) has published a sequel to “The Race,” his award-winning novel about the Tour de France. In the new book, “The Tour,” Ben Barnes is on a quest to win the legendary event. Along the way, he confronts obstacles greater than he ever imagined, but it’s the specter of illegal performance-enhancing drugs that truly shakes him. In “The Tour,” readers experience the unique pressures and challenges posed by these substances from the perspective of a professional athlete. Can Ben overcome adversity to experience victory? Join him as he races over the back roads of France to find out. Find Shields’s novel in local bookstores or at www.daveshields.com.
Part-time Parkite and Park City Magazine contributor Joel Zuckerman has played almost 500 golf courses worldwide. In his travels he’s met “all manner of hackers and yakkers, bad actors and bad dressers, the weird and the wacky.” He’s compiled his observations into his third book, “Misfits on the Links” (Andrews McMeel). With vibrant illustrations by Sports Illustrated’s Jeff Wong, 40 misfits come to life on the page. You’ll meet the Club Chucker, Booze Hound, Mulligan Man, the Statue, the Golf Hottie, the Fashion Plate, and other freaks of the fairway. www.vagabondgolfer.com.
