Park City Gallery Stroll

Pablo Picasso once said, “The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.” If you haven’t embraced that philosophy lately, the Kimball Art Center has the perfect remedy.
Art connoisseurs and the mere curious alike can scrub that dust off at the Park City Gallery Stroll, which takes place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the last Friday of every month. “The Gallery Stroll gives the public an incentive to come out for a fun night,” says Kimball Art Center’s Susan Thomas.
The stroll is like a treasure hunt of sorts. Five bucks will get you a ticket, a map and access to 23 of Park City’s best art galleries. Armed with that map, ticket holders set out from the Kimball Art Center and roam up and down Main Street like trick-or-treaters. On occasion, gallery strollers are even welcomed into galleries with complimentary hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants, wine, or perhaps even a conversation with the gallery’s featured artist. And with a little luck, they may just walk home with a piece of art as well. “On gallery stroll nights, the galleries take turns donating items for a raffle at the end of the evening,” explains Thomas.
The goal is to give people a reason to explore the treasure trove of local art galleries. Looks like that goal is being achieved. Upwards of 250 people participate each month, and there’s room for plenty more.
“It’s fun. It’s good for the artist, it’s good for the galleries and it’s good for Park City businesses,” concludes Thomas.
Admit it, Picasso was right. Everyone needs to occasionally “dust off” their souls and re-discover the joy of losing themselves in a piece of artwork that takes them out of their daily realm. Get thee to a Park City Gallery Stroll.
