Indoor Activities

To start, enjoy the leisurely and luxurious side of Park City. Spas are one of the best ways to take advantage of the indoors, and a variety of locations around town offer a multitude of ways to pamper yourself. From no-thrill Swedish massages to facials and wraps, all the bases are covered for recovery after a strenuous exercise class or as the day’s only event. Area therapists offer reflexology, acupuncture and hot stone massage in their studios or at your hotel room. There’s even a local therapist who will come to your home to give your dog a massage.

On the more active side, the number of athletic clubs has grown in the past year, offering everything from a women-only environment to day care to indoor swimming. They are diverse in their areas of expertise as well, specializing in weight training and core strengthening to aquatics, name-brand workouts and ancient disciplines.

Receive peace through a downward dog or tree pose at one of the yoga studios and in classes that practice the ancient art of balance. Focus on balance, flexibility and inner core strength with instructors who follow the long-time wisdom of the dance world in their Pilates classes.
A martial art of self-defense, aikido literally translates into “the way of harmony of the spirit,” emphasizing its peaceful aspects. Classes include hand, sword and staff techniques.

\When the desire hits to sweat and be done for the day, a wide range of aerobic classes can fill it. Athletic clubs offer spinning, cardio kickboxing, circuit training and the Reebok Core Board workout, to name a few. Unstructured time in the clubs’ weight rooms is also a possible way to pass a rainy afternoon or work off that gourmet dinner from the night before.

The Basin Recreation Field House in Kimball Junction offers a number of group and individual activities all summer long. Hit a grand slam at the batting cages, or get into shape in its fitness room, equipped with cardio machines and free weights. The indoor field is used for soccer, lacrosse, football and track.

If you’re looking for a little extra motivation, personal trainers often work with clients in the gyms, and several travel to clients’ homes or hotel rooms as well.

Tennis anyone? If you can find a partner, head to the tennis and racquetball courts to match serves. In addition to the outdoor tennis courts around town, several indoor courts make playing the game an any-day sport.

The local libraries and video rental businesses can make a couch potato out of anybody with a great selection of books and movies on video and DVD. Two local movie theaters also play the latest films.

If you’re feeling lucky, a three-hour ride straight west will bring you to some out-of-state gambling in Wendover, Nevada. If you have a little more time, eight hours will bring you to the gambling capitol of Las Vegas.

An indoor game of billiards is possible at several restaurants and private clubs around town, where you can play for fun or a beer.
