Children's Activities

Park City Mountain Resort caters to children with its Little Miners Park, complete with a kiddie car ride, merry-go-round and choo-choo train. Kids of all ages will enjoy the human maze, climbing wall and miniature golf course.

The Park City Library at 1255 Park Avenue and Summit County Library in Kimball Junction hold special events and storytimes for children during the summer months. Don’t be surprised if you see a child curled up in a corner with a book and a dog or a group of kids creating origami animals—it’s all about teaching a love of reading.

Girls (and their moms) get a chance to dress up in fancy hats at local tearooms, where a variety of teas and petite-sized foods can make any time of day special.

Kids and adults can also cruise up Main Street on the Main Street Trolley for free or see Old Town from a little higher up on the Town Lift.
The Canyons’ gondola offers another sky-high perspective of western Summit County.

Sneaking in a little history can be fun by bringing the kids to the Park City Museum and Territorial Jail on Main Street, where they can see one longtime prison locked away for good. Or they can learn about their own family’s history through a peek at their genealogy.

A little bit outside of Park City is the Alf Engen Ski Museum at the Utah Olympic Park, which unfolds the history of skiing, and the Heber Valley Aero Museum in Heber City which pays homage to human flight. In Salt Lake City, several museums, a zoo and a planetarium with an IMAX theater involve kids with interactive displays and kid-friendly exhibits. The Utah Children’s Museum puts everything into a kid’s perspective, from a kid-sized grocery store to a bird migration refuge for kids up to 4 years old.

Day camps sprout up as abundantly as wildflowers in the Park City area, with resorts and lodging properties leading the way with fun activities. Summer theater programs run through local live theater groups and The Canyons and Deer Valley resorts hold adventure camps all summer long. Kids can also attend day camps with a focus on art, gymnastics, physical fitness, various sports, music or dance.

If it’s water fun your kids are after, both private and public swimming pools can fit the bill, with outdoor swimming pools, a wading pool, slides and a lazy river. Nearby reservoirs also offer swimming areas.

Park City is also home to a popular skateboard park, located at the south end of City Park. Open during daylight hours, the park is home to skateboarders and in-line skaters. Protective gear is recommended, but admission into the park is free.

Throughout the summer, various organizations and resorts around Park City celebrate events with fireworks. So if it just turned dark, and you hear claps of thunder, don’t run inside just yet—look to the sky and you might catch some glimpses of color.
