Burger Fix

Where’s the best burger in town? We asked different groups around town who serves their favorite American dish, and they had no problem coming up with answers. Agreeing where to go, however, is a totally different matter.

Staff members at the Park City Library and Education Center chose “healthy” as the main criteria for a good burger. And the burger that got the most votes stems from a place as un-library-like as possible—No Name Saloon’s buffalo burger with bacon and cheese (although the Burger
King garden burger ranked especially high with one staffer). The importance of the lean meat of the buffalo ranks right behind the homemade chips served crisply next to it. No Name Saloon & Grill BBQ Bacon Cheese Buffalo Burger, $7.95.

The Executive Office (i.e. the Mayor) and the Planning Department of Park City Municipal Corporation (i.e., City Hall) pick Davanza’s Cheeseburger as their favorite. Within walking distance of the Marsac building, it’s the choice of Mayor Dana Williams when he craves something sinful. To get to full impact, order it to go—the wax paper used to package travel orders makes all the difference in the taste. Davanza’s Cheeseburger, $4.50.

Officers from the Park City Police Department agree that when it comes to burgers, Main Street has the best. The Hungry Moose Pub & Grill’s “Chee-Burger” has become a fast favorite, with at least one vote for the Mushroom Burger. The generous portion and seasoned waffle fries make either burger a filling lunch—even when lunch hour doesn’t come until 9 o’clock at night. Hungry Moose Chee-Burger, $7.45.

Chief Kelly Gee warned that if you asked 80 firefighters what their favorite burger was, you’d get 80 different answers. One of the most enthusiastic answers, however, was for The Big Jake from Taco Maker, with its two quarter-pound hamburger patties, three strips of bacon and ample cheese. (If there had to be a consensus, the garlic, blue cheese, jalapeno and bacon burger grilled by Captain Scott Rapshus got the most votes, so never turn down an in-vitation to dinner from a firefighter.) Taco Maker’s The Big Jake, $4.19.

The Park City Public Works Department handles everything from water to the bus system to parking meters. When they want someone else to handle their hunger, however, they head up to O’Shucks Bar & Grill and take on the Garlic Burger. The private club has a great patio for people watching, and more locals than visitors usually frequent the bar inside. O’Shucks Garlic Burger, $7.25.

Some burgers didn’t get enough votes to grab a top spot, but got high ratings from locals, including:
1/2-Pound Burger at Easy Street, with cloves of garlic and Roquefort cheese, $7.95.
Bacon Burger with Cheese at Dick’s Drive Inn in Kamas, $3.35.
Green Chili Burger at Nacho Mamas, $8.95.
Timbers 1/2-Pound Burger with Sweet Potato Fries at Park City Grill, $9.95.
Garden Burger at Bandits Grill & Bar, $9.49.
Hamburger at Holiday Lanes in Heber City, $2.05.
