Egyptian YouTheatre Summer Camps Open for Registration
The Egyptian Theatre's YouTheatre Program is thrilled to announce its Summer 2012 Calendar and Camp Registration. Jamie Wilcox, the YouTheatre Director, has been working feverishly to map out a summer of diverse, fun, and interesting camp offerings that will entice children and please their parents.
Several changes in the program this summer include: One-week camp options; longer camp hours for children 8 and up; elective classes such as stage combat, stage make-up, and puppetry; and a full-scale Teen Musical Theatreproduction at the end of summer.
The one-week camps were added to serve youth who have a busy summer but still want to be part of the program, or for students trying something new. Campers will dabble in many areas of stage presentation including song, dance, improv, and movement, showcasing their new skills at the end of the week for invited guests. A first experience performing on stage for an audience is life-changing and confidence-boosting!
One-week camps are offered as Theatre Bugs, for children ages 5-7 on Mon-Fri, 9am-1pm and Drama Queens & Kings, for children ages 8-14, Mon-Fri from 9am-3pm.
One week Camps are available: June 18-22, July 16-20, and August 13-17
Multi-week sessions include Pre-Teen camp, Teen Musical Theatre, and Teen Drama Camps.
Teen Camps begin July 9 and run 3-5 weeks. Teens aged 12-18 will select between the three-week Drama track or the five-week Musical Theatre track.
While all camp weeks conclude with a collaborative production on the Egyptian Theatre stage, the Musical Theatre Teens will rehearse a few extra weeks after camp to present 13 (musical) at the Egyptian Theatre August 10-12.
YouTheatre Director, Jamie Wilcox is super excited about this production, because, she said, there are few musicals written specifically for this age group. Many adult shows have been edited for a junior version, such as Guys & Dolls Jr. or Suessical Jr., but 13 is written for this age group to act in and to see, as the themes are specific to their age. She thinks the opportunity to perform in this production, with its lyrics and music by Jason Robert Brown, will draw many teens from Summit County and even the Wasatch Front.
One more exciting opportunity is a Master Class with Peter Karrie, offered July16-19. Peter Karrie is known as the world's favorite Phantom for his iconic portrayal of the lead in Phantom of the Opera. This Master Class is free to students in Teen Musical Theatre camp, or may be attended 'a la carte' by interested students ages 12 & up.
