Celebs Do Sundance

Movies come; movies go; and so do the celebs that have graced Park City this weekend. Imagine kids at Disneyland taking pictures with Cinderella or Buzz Lightyear. Sundance is where adults get to stand next to their own favorite ‘characters.’

I was heading up the street to catch a shuttle to the “House of Luxury” when I saw a crowd taking photos. In the middle was True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgård being  a  good sport and posing with fans.

HP Delivers For Everyone at Sundance 2013

I just got stopped on the street and invited into the HP Tent for some live music. Must have been my new doo from the DoveColorCare popup salon that's winding down today at the TR Suites Gifting Lounge. But actually, the tent is open to anyone! It's yet another opportunity for the general public to participate in Sundance. HP is serving fresh hot cocoa and offering free "Festival Tours" to "enhance your Sundance experience." Guides leave from the tent at 10 a.m. and noon every day and walk you all over Main Street to show you the inner workings of the Fest venues and offer a low-key introduction to the mayhem.

Park City Makes Disney Channel’s List of Film Locations

If you’re on the slopes of Brighton or Park City Mountain resort at the end of this month you might wonder what all the cameras and trucks are up to. Nope, it’s not Warren Miller or TGR hunting for epic powder stashes. The Disney Channel is shooting a new family film which is executive produced by Oly and X-Games star Shaun White (sans red shag). No word yet on whether he’ll actually act in the movie but expect him to pull a few signature halfpipe stunts.

White will produce in conjunction with High School Musical Alum Ashley Tisdale. It’s unconfirmed whether she’ll co-star or stay behind the scenes.

The movie is called Cloud Nine and centers around a couple of teenage snowboarders, their parents, romance and a halfpipe...

Guess Who’s Coming To Sundance 2013?

Welcome to Sundance 2013. Aside from Cannes and the Oscars, this world-renowned indie film fest is one of the best places to spot, photograph or just ogle some of your favorite celebrities - writers, directors, actors, musicians and more - who will flood into Park City starting tomorrow, January 17.

We’re not promising they will all appear like the princesses at Disneyland. Some cancel last minute. Some hide out in their hotel rooms and some go incognito. Still, if you plant yourself at hotspots like the Village at the Lift (lower Main Street), the Sky Lodge, the Music Café and basically the intersection of Main Street and Heber Avenue, there’s a better than good chance of spotting ‘Waldo’.

Art Met Fashion

Art met fashion last Saturday at a fundraiser for the Human Rights Campaign and the Salt Lake Arts Center. Some of our readers may have gone to the first Art Meets Fashion event, held in Park City last fall (sponsored by Park City Magazine as a fundraiser for The Peace House and Summit County Friends of Animals).

As fun and successful as the Park City event was, this time around AMF really took it up a notch. Six local designers introduced full-fledged fashion lines. Each designer had his/her own aesthetic which was discussed in a five- minute video screened before the models hit the floor. An Architect Who Turned to Art

Curtis Olson started making art on a full-time basis less than a decade ago. Before that, he'd been practicing architecture in California and Wyoming for twenty years.

"One Friday about eight years ago, I was driving to my grandmother's memorial service in Missoula, Montana and thinking of the unfulfilled dreams she'd had in her life," he said. "On Monday morning I quit my job and began my art career. I lived on credit cards for a year until it finally began to be a bit profitable."

Phoenix Gallery's Annual SMALL Invitational

If you had walked by Phoenix Gallery on Sunday night and peered into its brightly lit and colorful gallery space, you might have noticed that this wasn't just any old gallery party. In the center of the room was a ping-pong table, where a very heated tournament was taking place. Energetic people were bustling about hanging up paintings, while others huddled in front of artwork intently discussing it. Instead of a gallery full of potential art buyers, it was actually a room full of artists dropping off their artwork for the big upcoming show - the Phoenix Gallery's Annual SMALL Invitational.

The art market in New York is so different from the contemporary market in the Southwest and in our region that we might as well be on different planets. For our regional art market, prices are determined by the artist’s price list and recent sales. Most artists in this region increase their prices about 5-10% every few years; again, depending on sales and availability, as well as exhibitions and press, etc. Artists and their prices are rarely volatile and it’s even more rare to see decreases in their work’s value. Gals: Stanfield Fine Art To Host Famous Romantic

Long before book publishers approached Italian artist Pino Daeni, the expressive painter already enjoyed a thriving reputation for his warm, nostalgic style and ability to convey movement in his portraits.
