And Sundance Begins!
You can feel it in the air … both the excitement of an impending creative explosion and the trappings that go along with it. The Sundance Film Festival begins tomorrow night. Banners designating various Park City buildings "theaters" are hung. Traffic is slowly increasing. Barrier fences and parking cones are sprouting up on residential streets. There are more people in town, more cell phones and of course, more snow! (Like clockwork, it always snows during Sundance, and incidentally, it's a fantastic time to ski because the mountains are wide open - the visitors in town are here for the films and don't tend to hit the slopes). Today is the day I get really excited about the festival.

Locals get to pick up their ticket packages a day before "outsiders" and as a member of the media, I was able to pick up my press credential and my film catalogue today. Tonight, I'll pore over its thick, colorful, smelling-of-ink-hot-off-the-press pages and revel in the volume and diversity of films available. I'll get out my freshly sharpened pencil and circle the possibilities, and then get out my calendar and start filling it up with movie dates, afternoons for lingering in the Music Café, panels discussing things like the role of music in film, the discovery process, or how documentaries are funded. And I always leave time for simply wandering around, taking in the "scene" and letting the little surprises happen. January, the dead of winter, is the perfect time to journey within; allow introspection; dream; and seek inspiration. Sundance will help me do just that. Stay tuned here to my blog on parkcitymagazine.com and I'll take you along for the ride.
