01/26/10Feeling Like Family At Sundance
My first dip into the pool that is Sundance was on Friday at the Eccles Center, our absolute gem of a state-of-the-art theater. It was noon and the place was packed. Twelve hundred people-full. I marvel to think that so many people can break out of their routines in the middle of the day like that. There was electric excitement in the crowd, and I felt so proud when Sundance staffers and members of the cast and crew got up to speak at the podium that our very own local artist John Helton designed and built years ago when the Eccles Center opened. The film was called "happythankyoumoreplease," written and directed by Josh Radnor, who stars in the television show "I Met Your Mother." 01/21/10And Sundance Begins!
You can feel it in the air … both the excitement of an impending creative explosion and the trappings that go along with it. The Sundance Film Festival begins tomorrow night. Banners designating various Park City buildings "theaters" are hung. Traffic is slowly increasing. Barrier fences and parking cones are sprouting up on residential streets. There are more people in town, more cell phones and of course, more snow! (Like clockwork, it always snows during Sundance, and incidentally, it's a fantastic time to ski because the mountains are wide open - the visitors in town are here for the films and don't tend to hit the slopes). Today is the day I get really excited about the festival.

01/06/10New Jupiter Bowl Right Up Park City’s Alley
The holiday season gifted Park City with many presents. One of the shiniest? Our new bowling alley, Jupiter Bowl (a clever pun on our black diamond favorite at Park City Mountain Resort). We've been receiving press releases at the Park City Magazine office for several years now advertising the coming of the bowling alley, so it's quite satisfying and exciting to have it open! Lauded in pre-publicity as a complete "entertainment attraction," the place is truly living up to its aspirations, getting thumbs up from Park City kids and adults alike. The 22,000-square-foot building houses 12 bowling lanes, glitzy and new, with a rainbow of colored bowling balls and sultry runway lighting. There's an uber- high-tech, 50-foot video screen that spans the wall over all 12 lanes,... Posted at 09:11 PM | Permalink | Comments: 1 |
